Specifications Technologist (Surrey, UK) - (Ref: 1113)

 

 

Our client provides scientific, technical, and legislative support to the food, drinks and allied industries worldwide. The practical application of technical excellence lies at the heart of all that they do and is supported by their industry-leading facilities, expertise and knowledge. 

They are looking for a Specifications Technologist to help clients / members consistently and efficiently meet complex, demanding and shifting requirements in specifications and artwork management. Reporting to the Specifications Manager, he/she will be a key member of the specification team and will work very closely with the Regulatory team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Create, check, review and approve finished product specifications and pack copies in customer agreed format and policies
  • Check, review & approve client artworks and labels including packaging as required
  • Provide support to clients in the completion of accurate specifications & artwork projects through regular feedback and advice
  • Create and continuously update departmental ‘Specification and Artwork’ standard operating procedure to ensure efficiency and high level of accuracy is achieved in specs & artworks
  • Deliver internal and external projects on time and within budget meeting all required KPIs

(All above points from 1 to 5 inclusive equates to 75% of time spent)

  • Maintain and extend a high level of awareness of client labelling policies, current food legislation, related issues and likely developments (10%)
  • Answer questions from members, other clients and colleagues on the content, application and interpretation of the specification / artwork and seek advice from relevant internal teams where required answering these (5%)
  • Participate in scheduled Legislation courses and contributes to specification and artwork training workshops (5%)
  • Develop self to enhance performance and professionalism and mentor less experienced staff as required (5%)
  • Spend time at client site based on project requirement
  • Undertake such other duties as, from time to time, reasonably may be required by the Specifications Manager
  • Create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships
  • Share knowledge and experience with customers and internal colleagues, to support growth of knowledge and ability 

Skills, experience and attributes:

  • Graduate level qualification(s) in Food Science / Nutrition or PhD in physical sciences
  • An extensive technical and knowledge of label regulations and significant practical experience in the processes involved in specification & artwork projects
  • Well-developed communication skills at all levels
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret a large volume of continually changing, complex legal and business material
  • Strong IT skills
  • Flexibility required travelling to sites as and when required
