Assistant Brewer (North West, UK) - (Ref: 1254)

 

Our client is a one of the oldest and most respected brewer in British history with the most advanced and sophisticated breweries in the UK. They are now looking to recruit an Assistant Brewer, reporting to the Brewing Manager at their brewery based in the North West. The successful candidate will help manage and co-ordinate all aspects of the brewing process with a focus on maintaining and delivering safety, quality and efficiency. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Liaise with the Brewing Manager, Shift Brewers and Quality Manager to ensure that the correct brewing requirements are being met and adhered to
  • Ensure that batches are brewed to the required specification
  • Be responsible for developing, scheduling and communicating shift outline details and instruction to the brewing teams, including monitoring of shift reporting
  • Train, guide and grow the team to ensure they become both efficient and well rounded
  • Assist with the continuous improvement of the brewing process
  • Ensure that the Brewery Quality Management Systems are adhered to and highlight to the Brewing Manager when they are not and understand why
  • Work with the Brewing Manager to formulate recipes and ensure the quality of the brewing process
  • Assist and support the planning team when it comes to manage the brewing schedules to ensure maximum capacity is achieved within the brew house
  • Be responsible for the preparation, planning and ordering of all required brewing raw materials
  • Assist in managing Quality Control process and beer tasting
  • Manage brewery operations – assisting Brewing Manager with reporting of production volumes, scheduling, inventory management, quoting, fault finding, troubleshooting
  • Structure shift priorities and brewer placement on tasks i.e. who runs brew-house, fermentation and laboratory duties and other required tasks
  • Make recommendations in relation to improvements in the efficiency and effectiveness of brewing operations
  • Support the commissioning and development of any new brewing methods and processes
  • Ensure that all tasks are carried out in a safe working manner in accordance with Company Health and Safety Policy and safe working practices 

Skills:

  • Either brewing qualification at IBD diploma level or full comprehensive knowledge of brewing science and practice
  • Experience in managing a brewing process
  • Ability to use initiative, prioritise and problem solve
  • “Can do” attitude
  • Good leadership skills
  • Experience of managing a small team an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Computer literacy
  • A NEBOSH general certificate or similar safety qualification would be advantage
