Head Brewer / Head of Production (KENT, UK) - (Ref: 1250)

Our client is based in Kent and described as a premium, passionate and innovative modern brewery.  They are setting up a state of the art new brewery and their rapidly growing business will move into the new brew-house late in 2018. It is a very exciting time to join the brewery. 

They are now seeking to recruit a Head of Brewing & Production and would like a confident and forward-thinking individual to lead the brewing business through this transformational period.  Reporting to the Managing Director, the Head of Brewing & Production will be responsible for the project management of the full brewery and packaging installation, recruitment of the production, packaging and maintenance teams, and the day-to-day running and management of the new Brewhouse and brewery facilities.  The Head of Brewing & Production will be managing and developing a team of brewers and working closely with the senior management team to deliver the Brewery’s plan and strategy.  

Key responsibilities:

  • Project manage the development of a new brewing facility and move to a new site
  • Source and negotiate the purchase of new brewing and packaging machinery
  • Manage facilities install and negotiate contracts
  • Lead Brewery brewing operations to be World Class
  • Recruit, train, guide, and grow the brewing team to ensure they are efficient and well-rounded brewers
  • Create and maintain a method of continuous improvement of wort and packaged beer quality and consistency
  • Ensure that a brewery Quality Management System is in place and adhered to
  • Manage budget for brewery operations
  • Manage production, packaging, and lab teams, processes and equipment
  • Supervise brewing and packaging schedules
  • Work with Senior Brewing team to formulate recipes and ensure quality of brewing processes
  • Enforce occupational health and safety standards
  • Negotiate supplier contracts
  • Manage QC process and taste panel
  • Manage accreditation processes – SALSA, HACCP etc.
  • Act as an ambassador of the brewery and an industry representative 

Skills, experience and attributes:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Premium & Modern Craft Beer industry
  • Comprehensive knowledge of brewing science
  • Project management & strong organizational skills
  • Procurement & negotiation experience
  • Attention to detail and ability to problem solve
  • Systems analysis & risk assessment
  • Leadership with excellent communication skills
  • Team focused with strong work ethic
