Head Brewer (London, UK) - (Ref: 1253)

Our Client, a leader in the craft beer market, is looking for a Head Brewer to be part of an energetic and enthusiastic team and lead Brewing, Pack and Innovation. The brewery owns two sites within the London area and involvement with both sites will be required. The Head Brewer will be required to collaborate with the Head Brewer from the other site and align the operations. 

This role has overall responsibility for production operations at the site from raw materials to packaged beer.  The brewery site should operate as a showpiece and be flexible for the production of both core beers and a leader for innovation for the brewery. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety, housekeeping and quality standards and procedures are adhered to at all times 
  • Maintain a clean environment for the production of beer
  • Comply with all govt. regulations required in food production facilities
  • Plan brewing activities on a daily and weekly basis to ensure production plan is met.  Working with the other Head Brewer, Supply and Demand Planner and Packaging Manager and leading the brewing team to ensure production is completed in a timely and acceptable standard
  • Execute all brewing operations as required to ensure production is completed to plan Troubleshoot and assist with breakdowns where necessary
  • Recruit, develop and manage the brewing team to ensure that the team is fully skilled to complete brewing operations
  • Manage quality systems to meet the required standards (SALSA) and produce beer of the highest quality
  • Manage brewing raw materials stocks and storage with the Production Administrator so that brewing operations can be carried out.  Complete regular stocktakes and manage storage to use materials on a FIFO basis
  • Assist with the other site’s operations as necessary to help ensure consistency across both sites
  • Represent the company at external events and be a proud ambassador for the Brewery and the beers made
  • Lead innovation for production, working with the Head Brewer and other production team members as well as all areas of the brewery to produce new beers and develop existing beers make beers to the highest quality
  • Assist with projects and be an active member of continuous improvement teams as necessary 

Skills, experience and attributes:

  • IBD Diploma in Brewing qualification or similar is a strong advantage
  • Relevant technical degree (e.g. science, brewing, engineering) is an advantage
  • Significant experience in brewing. In-depth knowledge of brewing operations and a hands-on plant aptitude required
  • Strong leadership skills, previous experience in a Team Leader or Management position necessary
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Must possess a flexible and adaptable approach to working hours and style
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Must possess a passion for the Brewing Industry
