Head Brewer (North London, UK) - (Ref: 1241)

Our client, a Brewer whose approach is all about ‘producing exceptional beers, brewed with respect for process and flavour ‘, are now looking to recruit a Head Brewer who is currently used to managing a small team. The Head Brewer will be responsible for all aspects of the beer production process and day-to-day operations of the Brewery. They will report into the Founder & CEO, this is a high-level strategic role. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead all day-to-day activities necessary to produce high quality, consistent beer
  • Manage all brewery operations of our 55HL brew system
  • Lead, manage, and schedule the brewers, cellaring, and packaging team
  • Oversee all aspects of QA/QC
  • Actively contribute to new product development
  • Be involved in promotional activities representing Redchurch at beer festivals, “Meet the Brewer” events etc.
  • Promote an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork within the department and the company
  • Conduct quarterly and annual performance reviews with all direct reports
  • Coordinate with management to effect disciplinary measures when necessary
  • Effectively represent Beer Production in weekly cross department meetings regarding Quality and Production Planning
  • Advocate a continuous improvement culture throughout his/her team
  • Maintain all health and safety and HACCP systems to ensure compliance with our recently obtained SALSA Accreditation
  • Hold self and brewers accountable for adhering to SOPs and maintaining a sanitary and micro-biologically stable work environment
  • Conduct critical assessment of beers through active participation in raw material and beer sensory panels
  • Facilitate future growth of the brewery through continuous optimization of current processes
  • Advise brewer owner on how to best increase production capability and efficiency. May also play a role in helping plan capital expenditure
  • Maintain brewing, cellaring, packaging and other related documentation in an organised and complete manner
  • Provide hands on relief of all positions as necessary
  • Provide leadership in decision making situations as needed
  • Maintain healthy communication with other departments (Sales, Distribution, QA/QC, Tasting Room, and Production)
