Head Brewer (South West, UK) - (Ref: 1273)

 

 

Our client is a leading multi-award winning brewery based in Somerset who are looking to recruit a Head Brewer who will plan and coordinate all production operations, set specifications, control quality and to manage and develop the brewing and packaging teams while improving and growing the operation.  

Key responsibilities:

  • Procure, negotiate and manage raw material prices.
  • Be the face of the brewery and represent the brewery at industry events and support sales and marketing functions in promoting the beer
  • Set Packaging, Fermentation, QC, Racking and Brewhouse Standard Operating Procedures
  • Lead, motivate and develop the brewing and packaging team, ensuring all staff are trained to complete the duties expected of them and manage recruitment
  • Actively participate in management team meeting and activities
  • Ensure all the health and safety requirements are met and to take responsibility for stock and building security
  • Specify and manage capital projects in line with budgets
  • Manage and develop cost reduction activities to hit cost targets
  • Ensure beers are brewed and packaged ensuring forecasts and budgets are met
  • Manage lab activities and QC schedule to retain  SALSA and other accreditations and  facilitate analyses at external labs where necessary
  • Plan brewing and packaging operations to ensure beer is always available for sale
  • Work with the Engineering Brewer to ensure equipment is capable and reliable  
  • Develop new brands and recipes
  • Enable the brewing team to maintain accurate traceability, Trading Standards and HMCE records 
  • Manage EH&S and food safety in production
  • Assist Managing Director in completion of reasonable duties as they arise

Skills, experience and attributes:

  • Recognised brewing qualification
  • Knowledge of the functionality of Brewing and Packaging
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to efficiently lead, delegate and motivate subordinates
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good understanding of, and commitment to safe working practices
  • Positive hands-on team player
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in working hours to meet the needs of the business
  • Financially astute with strong Cost Centre, Supply Chain, Scientific, Engineering Knowledge
  • Flexible, adaptable, and calm under deadline pressure
