New Product Development (NPD) Manager (Scotland or London, UK) - (Ref: 1255)


Our client is a well-known multinational brewing and beverage company, a leading producer and marketer of spirits, fine wines, ciders and ready-to-drinks (RTDs). They are now looking for a NPD Manager based in London or ideally in Scotland. The New Product Development Manager will be responsible for leading the Packaging Project team in delivering new products, product enhancements and product redesign projects to the organisation. In doing so, they must evaluate the potential and practicality of products in development and rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. This position will also act as the key link with the Company’s Innovation Team, ensuring alignment of process and procedure, although a high degree of independent judgment is also required due to the standalone structure of the European business. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage, coach, and develop the Packaging Project team to ensure effective delivery of new product projects
  • Develop ways of working with key Marketing and Commercial Team members, setting up Internal Customer relationships with these groups
  • Deliver NPD products to quality, cost and delivery timing targets identified on project briefing documentation
  • Establish effective ways of working between NPD team and procurement function to ensure appropriate suppliers are selected and cost targets met
  • Ensure that at the design stage of products cost, controls are applied so that COGs meet those briefed or agreed
  • Ensure critical paths are in place for each project and milestones are adhered to
  • Establish cross-functional project teams for all major projects that are effective and encourage contribution from all stakeholders
  • Develop the NPD process to encompass new and evolving business activities
  • Actively work with suppliers to promote innovation and brilliance. Pushing boundaries on innovation and commercial viability to distinguish the packaging.

Skills, experience and attributes:

  • Significant experience in product development and with experience in the drinks industry an advantage
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Process orientated; demonstrated ability to develop repeatable processes or improve existing processes in and out of product development
  • Project management skills; will have demonstrated the ability to push projects over the finish line with sound planning and persistent execution; will understand how to align resources, seek the input of key constituents, and manage others to achieve desired results
  • Open and collaborative; must be comfortable working in an environment where ideas are shared and challenged
  • Energetic and enthusiastic; must find the work "fun" and enjoy being accountable and willing to hold others accountable
  • Ability to travel globally
