NPD Brewing Technologist (East Anglia, UK) - (Ref: 1177)


Our Client has been producing malt and malted ingredients for over 90 years and has grown to become a significant international player in the supply of malts, malt extracts, flours and flakes to the food and drinks industry.

In order to service different markets, they have two operating divisions – one which serves the Brewing and Distilling industries around the world, and one for malted ingredients, which focuses on food industries and non-alcoholic beverages. 

They are now looking for a New Product Development Brewing Technologist who will work closely with internal technical, sales and production teams, customers and external bodies alike to develop new products and investigate new ways of using existing ingredients in a variety of applications for the brewing industry worldwide. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the running and upkeep of the Centre for Excellence Brewery, including scheduling of customer and routine brews
  • Ensure Centre for Excellence Brewery customer visits and trials run smoothly
  • Develop training days and literature for customers and trainee brewers
  • Represent the Company at industry events, presenting at seminars and training days as required
  • Develop brews to demonstrate the benefits of the Company’s ingredients
  • Package, label and despatch beer samples in a professional manner
  • Arrange and run taste panels (informal and formal) to assess beer made in the brewery
  • Assist with development of malted ingredients in the Company’s Centre for Excellence
  • Oversee factory trials, communicating requirements and results to relevant personnel
  • Ensure documentation for all brewing, development work and trials is completed accurately and filed according to established procedures
  • Provide technical support to the sales team and brewery customers
  • Assist in the smooth running of the Centre for Excellence

Skills, experience and attributes:

  • Hold a brewing related degree, HNC, HND or professional brewing qualification
  • Have practical experience of a commercial brewery
  • Have a sound technical knowledge of brewing
  • Be able to communicate effectively, written and verbally, with management, employees and
  • external bodies
  • Be able to follow instructions carefully and report results accurately
  • Be creative and able to “think outside the box”
  • Have a keen interest in food and brewing, keeping abreast of industry issues and trends
  • Be IT literate with the ability to accurately compile professional technical reports, data sheets and
  • Presentations
  • Ambitious with a can-do attitude
