Production Manager (North West, UK) - (Ref: 1251)


Our client is a leading craft brewery based in the North West. They have a great reputation for producing excellent beer, with a number of exciting projects under way aided by their recent expansion onto their new semi-automated brew-kit. 

They are now looking to recruit a Production Manager with overall responsibility for the production of the Brewery’s products in accordance with the established procedures and standards, enabling the Brewery to achieve its business goals as set out in its rolling five-year business plan and build its reputation as a quality beer producer. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead Health and Safety on behalf of the Brewery, implementing standards and policies incorporating food safety standards, HACCP, COSHH and fire safety, to ensure the health and safety of both public and staff across all aspects of the business and its premises
  • Lead Quality Assurance for production including devising and reviewing policies, processes and procedures, ensuring that the Brewery achieves and maintains Quality accreditations (e.g. SALSA, BFBi, etc.), meets its legal obligations (Packaging waste, waste consent etc.) and retains a strong reputation as a quality producer of beer
  • Manage the procurement and supply of core brewing materials (malt &hops specifically) including projecting requirements, managing supplier contracts and relationships, ensuring the cost effectiveness and efficiency of production
  • Set and manage the maintenance service standards, inspections and contracts for core brewing and service assets to ensure business and production continuity
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement within the production area, to ensure that the production team is fully engaged in implementing production and quality management processes and systems and understand the implications of legal non-compliance and on our reputation as a quality producer
  • Manage and develop the Brewery Team Leaders who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the Brewery and production team, supporting and challenging them to get the best out of the production team
  • Report to the Board every 2 months providing production data, on efficiencies and non-compliance, complaints, issues and risks, for business planning purposes and to assure the board of Directors on all aspects of production performance
  • Plan, oversee and implement projects and works to improve, expand or refurbish elements of the brewery
  • Organise appropriate training to ensure staff meet legal requirements and are equipped to fulfil their role 

Skills, experience and attributes:

  • Previous managerial experience in food and beverage production – essential
  • Experience working in a brewing environment – desirable
  • Quality assurance and/or Health and Safety qualifications – desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of HACCP and COSHH – essential
  • Knowledge and understanding of Food Safety standards (SALSA/BRC) – essential
  • Experience of managing and motivating a team
  • Self-motivated and capable of working alone or as part of a team
  • Good time-management, attention to detail and ability to prioritise and manage workload and different demands
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to engage and listen to others
