Quality Manager (Midlands, UK) - (Ref: 1160)

 

Our client is a family owned contract bottling and packaging company providing services for the beer, cider and soft drink industries.  In recent years that have invested in plant, processes and laboratory equipment and have a modern manufacturing facility.  The facility is accredited to the SALSA standards and they are working towards gaining an ISO accreditation. They are now looking for a Quality Manager, reporting to the MD.

The Quality Manager will be responsible for running a lab that follows safety and quality assurance procedures, seeing to it that employees are properly trained and always complying with necessary rules and regulations. This highly trained professional will work hard to deliver precise lab results that can be relied upon. They will oversee implementation, development and co-ordination of quality processes as described in the quality policy and manual. The Quality Manager must also be aware of any current and evolving legislation and will ensure that quality systems meet the requirements of this legislation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure quality results are of the highest level and maintained
  • Create systems to monitor data quality and performance
  • Develop weekly and monthly reports to monitor performance and present to all employees and management
  • Manage and update the Quality Manual
  • Ensure that an effective document control system is in place and operational, including the quality manual and all procedures and records in addition to those that relate to training and health and safety
  • Develop a comprehensive quality system which is ‘owned’ by everyone within the Company and which satisfies the requirements for quality systems as necessary for a number of standards and regulations
  • Ensure that all the procedures adhere to safety and compliance rules and regulations
  • Ensure all analysis and testing is done in a timely manner, personally reviewing any abnormal results to find the root of the irregularity
  • Develop the Sampling Plan and ensure it is properly and consistently applied during all production processes
  • Ensure there are always sufficient reagents and apparatus to maintain such a sampling plan
  • Involved in the recruitment process for the lab positions
  • Manage the lab team on a day to day basis ensuring that all training is provided
  • Work with suppliers and customers, verifying whether or not they follow the Company Quality Standards
  • Compile performance reports and data and meet with suppliers and customers as required
  • Serve as the company representative during all lab audits, assisting auditors with any inquiries and reporting findings to management
  • Ensure that all complaints, both formal and informal, are recorded and acted upon
  • Keep abreast of industry trends by reading current publications, maintaining memberships in professional organisations and attending industry conferences 

Skills, experience and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a science or quality management specialty
  • Quality certification or expected to gain such qualification in addition to developing understanding of beer processing and packing technologies
  • Relevant work experience to perform the role, manage a team and train team members
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good analytical / mathematical and computer skills
  • Sound decision-making skills
  • Ability to take direction from the leadership team and implement priorities
  • Systematic approach to general management and problem solving
  • Remain positive when working under pressure
  • Ability to work on own initiative with excellent organisation skills
