Technical Manager (Brewing) - Scotland - (Ref: 1212)



Our client, is looking to recruit a Technical Manager to be responsible for all the production at their key 3rd party partner sites together with responsibility for group quality and technical developments. The main output of this role is to ensure that all beers are as delicious as they can be and the consumer experience from the product is world class

 Reporting to the Brewing and Operations Director key responsibilities will be to:-

  • Manage the production relationship with all 3rd party production sites including all aspects of brewing and packaging from diagnosing production issues and working on process improvements to managing quality and producing the weekly brew plan
  • Be the go to person for all technical and quality aspects of production from our 3rd party partners, from the brewhouse to packaging and lead monthly management meetings with their senior teams
  • Work closely with our Head of NPD and the Planning Manager to develop any new products and be the main technical resource for new products being produced
  • Manage the quality of our entire supply chain, from brewing and packaging at various production sites including our own brewery
  • Develop a group quality strategy and roll this out incorporating third party production,  our Brewery and our brew pubs
  • Support the commissioning and development of any new packaging formats or materials
  • Manage all customer complaints relating to production
  • Support the taste panel program for the group working with the taste panel lead to ensure a world class taste program is in place
  • Work closely with all suppliers building great relationships across the supply chain
  • Work closely with the MD and Head brewer of our brewery in order to be a technical support as required to support the development of new beers and also to support production of our current brands
  • Manage the transition of brands from our brewery to other third party breweries
  • Support capex investment at the brewery and its commissioning.
    • Depending on the project the role holder will be required to lead development of some items for example development of the onsite lab or bottling line
    • Provide technical support to markets leads for in market quality or compliance items relating to our products
    • Develop a list of alternative 3rd party contract packing sites who we could use for contingency purposes. This may also include contract brewing opportunities as well.
    • Lead the audit and approval process of good manufacturing schemes as appropriate for example SALSA.


We are looking for someone with experience in a brewing, packaging or a technical role ideally with a good understanding of draught and dispense systems.  You will have a relevant degree (or equivalent) and the IBD Diploma in Brewing.  The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and a passion for the brewing industry.  As this role requires some travel a driver’s licence is required.
