WCM Manager (Hungary) - (Ref: 1213)



Our client, Pannonia Ethanol Zrt. (PEZ) produces fuel ethanol and animal feed. The company is part of Ethanol Europe Renewables Limited (EERL) and located in Dunaföldvár, Tolna County, Hungary, about one hour drive south of Budapest. 

The facility has been recently expanded to become one of Europe’s largest bioethanol plants: it is currently using one million tons of corn per year to produce up to 450 million litres of ethanol, 350,000 tons of distillers’ grains and 10,000 tons of corn oil. 

Pannonia Ethanol produces some of the most environmentally friendly ethanol in Europe, with greenhouse gas (GHG) savings well in excess of those required under the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED). 

The production process at the plant uses a closed system; minimising waste as well as purifying and reusing water involved in the production. Pannonia Ethanol has built a world class production facility, and provides all necessary resources required to achieve the highest possible performance standards. The Company is now one of the largest and fastest developing bioethanol producers in Europe.

Pannonia are now seeking to recruit a WCM Manager to lead and design WCM Manufacturing goals and strategies for improving the operations and processes within the organization. He/she will manage all activities for continuous improvement and performance enhancement. They will also put in place WCM methodologies and tools in order to accomplish business objectives. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop, set the pace and implement business transformational and continuous improvement strategy
  • Implement and support cultural change across the organization and drive business improvement
  • Develop, deliver and support delivery of manufacturing improvement change initiatives.
  • Outline direction and deployment of the WCM framework to ensure consistent and rigorous application across the business in line with best practice.
  • Responsible for the successful management and implementation of business improvement projects/initiatives across the business by developing an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible team
  • Report on progress of projects, understanding the risks, dependencies, budgets, resourcing, issues, critical milestones and forthcoming pipeline, and actions necessary to ensure success
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
  • Undertake continuous training and development
  • Statistical analysis for improvement projects and to support wider change
  • Attend various meetings and action/communicate instructions
  • Produce written reports and make presentations
  • Identify business improvement opportunities within the organization
  • Ensure relevant on-going learning and development of all employees in WCM improvement tools and communication methods
  • Coach and facilitate teams and individuals to identify and implement improvement opportunities
  • Develop and build a culture of engagement at all levels of the business to provide a highly energized team which is flexible to meet the changing needs of the business
  • Provide technical expertise to the team
  • Prepare the annual WCM budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legal standards. Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
  • Work as part of the management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements delivery in line with company and customer requirements
  • Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the WCM strategy 

Skills, experience and attributes:


  • Relevant BS/MS degree (Brewing)
  • Training or Lean certification through an accredited organization.
  • Membership of an industry related professional body would be advantageous
  • Qualified Trainer is advantageous 


  • 3-5 years’ experience in similar industry where WCM were implemented and successfully managed.
  • 5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment
  • High-level diagnostic and problem solving skills in a production environment.
  • Successful previous experience as a sales manager, consistently meeting or exceeding targets
  • Proven ability to drive the sales process from plan to close
  • Experience in all aspects of planning and implementing Lean methods
  • Proven experience in project management
