PROCUREMENT AND PACKAGING DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Our client, one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, has been distilling single malt Scotch whisky for over 200 years. They are now looking to recruit a Procurement, Packaging and Development Manager whose responsibilities will include leading the Procurement and Development processes for all packaging and bottling.

 

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

• Lead the Procurement process for all packaging and bottling
• Lead the development of all packaging for new products
• Lead the project management of all NPD and Brand change projects for the entire portfolio
• Deliver and manage a full stage/gate approval process for all packaging development
• Deliver packaging standards and specifications for all new products and brand change
• Ensure a robust management of change process
• Work closely with design agencies and suppliers to ensure functional delivery of brand concepts

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Procurement:

• Source and tender all packaging goods based for the business requirements and internal customer brief with a sense of Total Cost of materials and service.
• Manage the full procurement process including market research, competitive pricing, supplier selection and negotiation, contract implementation, and supplier performance review, retendering as appropriate.
• Support new product development by sourcing required materials, developing new packaging and labels to deliver new launches and commercial plans
• Implement contract and SLAs and follow up to ensure the best service level, competitiveness, and continuous improvement.
• Actively manage OPEX contracts, benchmark, tender, re-negotiate and execute contracts/agreements with suppliers that improve quality, service, and cost-efficiency.
• Build and deliver a pipeline of projects by engaging with internal cross-functional stakeholders, understanding needs and requirements aligned to functional and business targets
• Manage supplier relationships of critical suppliers, monitoring KPIs such as price competitiveness and service level, quality and wastage
• Liaising with Suppliers, Purchasing, Brands & Marketing, Finance, Commercial and Operations teams to ensure a smooth running of goods supply chain and packaging development.

Packaging Design & Quality:

• Work with Marketing/Brand Manager on initial design process to inform on packaging requirements and limitations
• Adapt final signed off packaging designs into final production stageDefine item specifications based on designs for Quality Control process both internal and external to the business.
• NPD & Brand Change
• Feedback challenges and production issues to Design Agency to make necessary design changes.
• Manage packaging production from prototyping to production samples, handing final approved products to Purchasing and Packaging co-ordinator for full production.
• Project manager all NPDs and brand change projects, using a stage/gate approval process. Ensuring all NPD and Brand changes are tracked and report progress
• Work with the Packaging and Purchasing co-ordinator to ensure all new products have appropriate specifications and are designed holistically.
• Ensure all brand change is managed through the NPD process and work with Purchasing and Packaging co-ordinator on a robust management of change process.
• Working with suppliers (including any trial productions) during the design phases of the NPD process to ensure an agreed and achievable specification
• Ensure a robust Approved Supplier List for the NPD and Brand change process.
• Quality, GMP and Compliance
• Commit to ensuring that our products meet the high standards expected of our brands.
• Ensure hygiene and housekeeping is of the highest standard at all times.
• Collaborate with Distillery Compliance to ensure that HMRC reports for all processes are filed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
