Our client, Whyte & Mackay, is looking to recruit a Global Dalmore Specialist, responsible for building confidence and belief in The Dalmore Single Malt Scotch Whisky amongst key internal audiences, trade customers and world of whisky influencers, both on and off-line.

The role requires a whisky expert and credible industry personality with strong interpersonal, presentation and storytelling skills; who will craft and consistently deliver emotionally engaging product messages, backed by clear and distinctive whisky artistry and scarcity credentials.

The successful candidate will inspire and enable in-market Specialists and their managers to deliver sensorial experiences which reinforce the intrinsic value of our precious whisky. You will facilitate best practice sharing and provide development opportunities.

Key Result Areas

Be the guardian of product messages:
• Ensure product messages are emotionally engaging and whisky artistry credentials are clear and compelling
• In partnership with the brand team, deliver distinctive training solutions so the in-market specialists and sales teams share consistent messages with memorable trade and consumer benefits
• Make certain that the commercial teams are expertly trained and emotionally incentivised to promote the brand

Be a face of the brand internally, in the trade and in the world of whisky:
• Host key visitors at Dalmore Distillery to make sure guests leave the distillery feeling exceptional
• Establish a digital presence as an ambassador for The Dalmore (use online platforms to promote yourself, the brand and the company)
• Work with the Communications team to:
– Present at key whisky events in strategically important markets
– Build a network of key trade and media influencers to ensure The Dalmore is always at the top of their minds
– Contribute content to brand communications (e.g. newsletter and digital platforms)

Inspire and empower the in-market Specialist team:
• Lead by example. Set the standard within the team for product / category knowledge, best practice sharing and presentation skills
• Working with the brand team, develop distinctive sensorial activations and tools for the community to use in markets so as to become the leader of the Dalmore experience
• Provide development opportunities and on-going mentoring to empower the team to perform at the highest level
• Facilitate knowledge and best practice sharing within the team
• Lead annual specialist workshops and regular online gatherings to continually improve the team impact

Share insights and expertise internally, especially with the brand team:
• Identify appropriate partnerships that can help to reinforce the whisky credentials
• Regularly report all activities against targets, competitor and market activity
• Directly influence market teams in their development and execution of activation plans across the brand
• Act as the brand team’s own whisky expert and support specific projects as requested

Key Success Criteria

Qualifications & Experience:
• Substantial previous experience as a Spirit Specialist or Brand Ambassador
• Mixology experience preferred
• General Certificate in Distilling (GCD) is preferred
• WSET Level 3 preferred

• Detailed Knowledge of the Production Process and history of Single Malt Whisky
• Sophisticated understanding of industry trends within whisky
• Broad alcohol category knowledge
• Detailed understanding of social media features and benefits
• Close relationships with International Key Opinion Leader’s (KOLs) within the world of whisky and the trade
• Good understanding of mixed drinks techniques and history

• Communication – Inspiring and Impactful storyteller
• Creativity – progressive and forward thinking
• Digital and social media savvy, strong awareness and understanding
• Drinks Design – ability to design serve strategies
• Marketing – ability to understand brand positioning, target audiences, pricing and communications mix
