OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

Timothy Taylor’s, based in West Yorkshire, is one of the UK’s most respected family brewers, producing high quality and nationally renowned ales. They are now looking to recruit an Operations Director whose responsibility will be to ensure that the brewery continues to produce beers of exceptional quality while running a safe, compliant, and efficient operation, built on a positive, open, and meritocratic culture.

Key responsibilities include:

• Work closely with the head brewer and the QA/QC function to ensure Timothy Taylor’s continues to produce beers of exceptional quality; and seek opportunities for continuous improvement in quality.
• Initiate a change in culture that builds an open, performance-oriented team that encourages new ideas, and rewards and develops talent. A genuine meritocracy.
• Ensure the optimum brewery organisation in terms of resource, clear roles and responsibilities, accountability, and delegation while looking for opportunities for more efficient and effective working.
• Produce and implement a comprehensive annual operating and capital investment plan for the brewery embracing personnel and resource planning; procurement; maintenance; and site development (including capacity enhancement). Within the plan, identify clear KPI’s for effective monitoring.
• Plan, oversee and coordinate the remedial maintenance and all engineering work required to make the brewery ‘fit for purpose’ and resilient while putting in place the structure and resources to keep it that way.
• Promote and enforce a safe working environment, meeting all regulatory compliance standards, working closely with the Company H&S manager.
• Building on the work of our consultants, Carbon Architecture, examine how we can make a significant reduction to our environmental impact and carbon footprint without compromising product quality.
• As a member of the Executive Management Team, contribute to the development of the wider company business strategy and its implementation.

Skills & Competencies:

Functional
• Proven success in an Operation’s Director (or equivalent) role.
• Clear evidence of efficiently and effectively running a multi-faceted production environment.
• Strong generalist commercial skills with a proven ability to manage capital projects, delivering results to specification and within timescales and budget.
• Evidence of being able to effectively structure a team(s) and then lead and foster a positive, modern culture while nurturing and developing talent.
• Demonstrable success at implementing continuous improvement programmes.
• Knowledge of Environment, Health & Safety requirements as well as the impact of DSEAR/PUWER and other key compliance areas on operations.

Personal
• Educated to degree level or equivalent.
• A self-starter with excellent leadership and management skills, a strategic outlook, and a practical mindset.
• Incisive thinker with a proven ability to prioritise workload across a wide-ranging company mandate.
• Problem solving aligned with strong project management skills.
• Strong communicator who is credible and comfortable in dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders across the business; demonstrates pace, gravitas, and engagement.
• Ability to deliver in an intelligent, collaborative, practical and enthusiastic manner; personally effective.
• Effective written, verbal communication, and presentation skills – ability to present to senior management.
