Distillery Site Manager

Our client, a Distillery company based in Scotland, is looking to recruit a Distillery Site Manager to join the management team in creating a successful and sustainable Scotch Whisky business, centred on a first-class single malt distillery producing high quality brands for key international markets with long-term growth potential.
The successful candidate will join the team during the initial stages of construction and be deeply involved in commissioning, testing and the selection of staff. The distillery will be developed with environmental sustainability as a major priority, and it has been designed to honour the scenic landscape in which it is located.

Our client requires an enthusiastic, forward thinking and innovative individual, capable of moving seamlessly between strategic and operational detail. As the leader of the site, the successful candidate will be expected to role model the standards and expectations of the company regarding its Code of Business conduct. Open to change and flexible in working arrangements if the need arises

Accountabilities and Responsibilities
• Embody a company culture that holds a safe working environment as paramount. Demonstrate a full understanding of tasks carried out on site to ensure the H&S procedures are correct for the site and are fully complied with
• Manage, maintain and improve distillation production, warehousing and packaging operations such that output matches agreed production plans and spirit quality is maintained
• Manage the purchase of raw materials including casks and associated contracts such as maintenance contracts
• Assist in the research and development of new products to market and the marriage of casks to create new whiskies
• Ensure spirit quality both new make and packaged is maintained to standard
• Ensure all raw materials meet agreed quality standards
• Ensure approved procedures are followed by carrying out regular checking and monitoring
• Develop, maintain and implement a maintenance plan
• Ensure the physical security of the site
• Provide coaching and support to team members in the aim to exceed performance standards
• Ensure the governance of the site through agreed audit schedules both internal and external comply with relevant regulations and consents e.g. discharge consents, legionella monitoring, water quality etc. as those issued by the Health and Safety Executive, SEPA, HMRC, etc. Maintain appropriate records
• Project manage site improvements and capital projects as required
• Manage and coordinate the preparation of annual and CAPEX budgets and contribute to the company’s longer-term planning. Analyse monthly variances to budgets and recommend and carry out any corrective action where necessary
• Utilise visitor facilities to maximise their brand support effectiveness. Where appropriate host whisky tastings and masterclasses
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing relevant publications, industry standards and best practice (Continuous Professional Development CPD). Establish and maintain professional networks

Qualifications
1 BSc in a science or engineering discipline
2 NEBOSH or equivalent or willing to work towards attaining
3 Diploma in Distilling from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling or willing to work towards attaining

Experience
1 10 years in the distillation industry ideally in Scotch whisky
2 People management experience
3 Experience working with statutory bodies such as H&S Executive, SEPA, HMRC
4 Knowledge of “Lean Manufacturing” or similar continuous improvement techniques
